South Orange, NJ — For eight dedicated seniors on the Hunterdon Central High School softball team, the Group 4 state championship took center stage over prom night this year.
With the NJSIAA final set for 4 p.m. at Seton Hall University and prom scheduled just two hours later in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the Red Devils made a bold choice.
After clinching a thrilling 4-1 win over Watchung Hills—their first state title since 2011—they raced straight from the diamond to prom, medals around their necks and uniforms still on.
Emily Van Cleef, a Boston College commit, dazzled on the mound, taking a perfect game into the sixth inning.
With an unforgettable win and a late entrance, these athletes showed true commitment and celebrated both milestones in remarkable fashion.
